India's top medical school is the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune. The AFMC holds the distinction of being the first medical college established by an Asian country's armed forces. The college is a unique organization that brings together medical education with training that fits the needs of the armed forces in terms of health care. For the past ten years, surveys conducted by reputable newsmagazines have consistently ranked AFMC among the top three medical schools in India. Since 2003, the NAAC has awarded AFMC recognition with high ratings. The institution offers training for paramedical workers, nursing undergraduates and graduates, dental postgraduates, and medical undergraduates and graduates. The training program includes patient care as a core component, and the connected hospitals make use of the AFMC's knowledge base. The organization is in charge of providing the Armed Forces with the whole pool of experts and super specialists by providing them with in-service training. Thus, the AFMC serves as the foundation for the high caliber, professional medical treatment given to the Armed Forces.
The campus is equipped with a swimming pool, a movie theater, a cafeteria, general stores, a unit-run canteen and shopping center, a childcare facility and a nursery school, houses of worship, a fitness center, and resources for both indoor and outdoor sports.
