MBA CAT Exam

The full form of the CAT is the Common Admission Test. It is a high level competitive exam taken throughout the country for admission in MBA courses. The exam is conducted by the IIM. A lot of students apply for this exam every year. To get admission in a reputed institution for the study of MBA the students must take this exam. Every year different states become the rotational body for the conduction of entrance exams. The exam is conducted on the computer and is taken online in a mannered way throughout various cities of the countries. The exam is divided into three parts that checks the study and quality needed in management students

These parts are known as VARC- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, QA- Quantitative Ability and DILR- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning. The exam is conducted for a total of 2 hours. There are MCQ’s and Non-MCQs questions that come in the exam. The students have to use their verbal skills and knowledge to solve those problems.

Eligibility for CAT

The exam taken by any student needs to have a few things in mind.

  • • The students need to have a bachelor degree for CAT with 50% marks for general students, 45% for SC, ST, PwD and DT students.
  • • The degree must have been gained from a recognized institution that has come under the statutory body so that it qualifies the students as a graduate.
  • • The students who have completed their degrees and if they are in the final year of college need to show the degree certificate to prove that they have been studying from a recognized institution.
CAT Syllabus

The students do need to study for a long time to take this exam. It is because there are a lot of students trying for this test and if they take it out they can have better opportunities. The students always need to take in mind that this exam only checks their decision-making, complex-tackling and time management skills. This is what decides if the students have the ability to do management and pursue a passion for it or not.

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension: This portion consists of comprehension passages. The students have to read that carefully and answer different questions based on it that have verbal reasoning, fill in the blanks, jumbles, sentence completion and summary related questions. The students can only take this section out easily if they have a sharp eye and good readability skills then they also can answer the questions without mistakes.

Quantitative Ability: This portion consists of questions that are from mathematical concepts and from arithmetics along with questions that are from different topics such as number system, mensuration, modern math, algebra and geometry. The students who have prepared well with arithmetics and algebra have a higher chance of taking out this section. The students might take much time to take out the section but it is not a big deal because the students can generally take less time in VARC.

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning: This portion consists of various questions and doubts from different topics such as arrangements, blood relations and syllogism in the format of caselets, charts, tables and graphs.

  • The students have to take the printout of the admit card for the examination center.
Important Things for CAT

There are some important things that a student should always keep in mind before going out to take the examination. Apart from studying hard, they also need to have these things in mind.

  • The admit card should be there with the students always.
  • They also need to have a document along with them as it is mandatory in various examination centers throughout the country.
  • They can’t take a calculator, smart watch, phone, tablets and any other electronic devices along with them inside the center that is allotted to them.
  • They do not need to have metallic jewelry or accessories with them inside the center.
  • They have to mention all the colleges and courses in which they want to pursue an MBA.
  • They are not allowed to take bags, clothes with a lot of pockets, jackets and closed footwear with them inside the examination hall.
  • They are not allowed to have any eatables and beverages with them inside the examination hall.

  • The students can look for the results from the official website.
  • They will have the message and e-mail received to check the results received to them before.
  • The students have to take a copy of the result with them for future purposes.
  • They are required to check the results on time to get the college of their choice.

Preparation for CAT

The students always need to have some things in mind for the CAT examination and smooth operation of the exam.

  • The notes are important. They need to have short formulas and notes of important things that are needed on the day of examination for revision.
