ESIC Medical College

The full form of ESIC is Employment State Insurance Corporation. The formulation of the Employment State Corporation Act was done in the year 1948 after the country gained its independence. It was for the social security of workers. At that time the country was dependent on the goods imported from highly developed countries or developing countries because factories weren't good enough in the country. The use of man resources was in only a few industries such as jute, textiles, chemicals etc. The launching of the Social Security system when the country was growing was a remarkable point.

The ESI Act of 1948 was to make sure that the workers get leave for sickness, maternity, temporary or permanent disability, disease and death due to injury which results in their loss of employment and loss of their earning capabilities.

About the College

The act was launched on 24 February 1952 by Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. At Brijendra Swaroop Park, Panditji addressed an audience of 70 thousand in front of Pt. Gobind Ballabh Pant, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Babu Jagjivan Ram, Union Labour Minister Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur, Union Health Minister Sh Chandrabhan Gupt, Union Food Minister Dr C.L. Katial and the first director general of ESIC.

The scheme was then launched in Delhi and together the employees were one lakh twenty thousand. Pt Nehru was the first prime minister to launch the scheme and his signature is at the prized possession which now is the property of the Corporation.
