The founder of KJ Somaiya Institute of Management is Shri KJ Somaiya.It was established in 1981. He was awarded Padma Bhushan for being an entrepreneur, philanthropist and visionary. He believed in modern education and its strong values. The aim is to provide meaningful and relevant education to students. Along with it, it emphasizes the liberal and professional aspects of higher education.

To get admission to this college you need to take an entrance examination. These entrance exams are CAT, XAT, GMAT, CMAT and XMAT. Admission in MCA requires you to take CET, MAH and MCA exams. The admission is finalized based on a personal interview and a group discussion to know the aspects that students want and why they want to join the institute.

1. Major These are the subjects taken by the college. Data Science, Finance, HR, Marketing and Operations Management. The college provides its students with specialization in these subjects so they can ace in the market.
Data Science: This field aims to equip statics, communication, human behavioral and cognitive models along with information technology and analytical tools in functional areas. The insight gained takes current and progressive decisions and manages the technical and non-technical tools.
Finance: This field is an important area of business financial and economy. The finance specialization keeps in mind objectives to make the students ready for economic or business functions in both places India and Internationally.
HR: The students are taught analysis, generation, implementation and evolution in human resources capabilities. The evolution is done on talent acquisition, competency development, talent development and talent engagement. The student will also learn to create, manage and make decisions based on HR analytics for the optimization of Human Resource Organization.
Marketing: This field teaches the skills of human-to-human marketing. It is redefined by technology and it gives importance to human contacts.
2. Minor : These are the subjects taught by the college as minors. The subjects are Business Analytics, Data Science, Financial Services, Marketing, Strategy and Consulting, People Development, Operations Management and Business Economics.
• Business Analytics: This field provides students with great knowledge of Descriptive, Diagnostic, Predictive and Prescriptive analytics. This field is offered to provide an enriching, data-driven and research-oriented experience.
• Data Science: This field teaches the concepts and technologies used in this field as well as diversifies the knowledge of students with real-life examples.
• Financial Services: It is considered a super specialization in the finance category. Industries and businesses cannot survive without the financial domain. This specialization is introduced to the students with the motive of providing a career in finance specialization and remaining within the finance domain.
• Marketing: In this field, the college teaches its students about the importance of human-to-human marketing and human connection with a brief idea adverse to the latest technologies.
• Strategy and Consulting: This field allows the student to learn various things such as understanding different industry structures, exploring different strategic frameworks, analyzing firm strategic choices, diagnosing strategic challenges, determining the choice of industries, proposing sound and realistic solutions to challenges based on resources and capabilities and diagnosing performance drivers of the organization.
• People Development: This field achieves developmental and organizational goals. It is done based on cross-cultural management, teams, diversity and inclusion and talent engagement. The students also learn to apply and execute the functions along with understanding and recognizing human resource assessments, rewards and recognition and HR policies.
• Operations Management: This field has an objective of providing an opportunity for cross-functional expertise. It also provides an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the field.
3. MBA/ MBA HCM/ MBA SM : The college offers a 2-year program for MBA. The college also offers opportunities for MBA in Healthcare and Sports Management. It offers peer-to-peer learning, interactions, a case-based approach, real-world assignments, simulations and industry interface.

The college provides the students with 5 scholarships which gives them a 100% fee off. The students eligible for scholarships must have a minimum of 80% marks in classes 10 and 12th. They should have a minimum of 70% in UG exams. They should get a minimum of 90% in CAT, 90% in XAT, a minimum mark of 700 in GMAT and 250 minimum marks in NMAT. The students applying for scholarships have to go through a screening that is done in 2 stages by the college. In stage 1, the students must have participated in extracurricular activities and provide a statement of purpose of 300 words about the scholarships to the college.
In stage 2, the student must go with a personal interview and the college selects the top 5 candidates for the scholarship.
