National Institutes of Technology

National Institutes of Technology, Rourkela was formerly known as Regional Engineering College and it is a publicly funded institute of higher learning for engineering, science and technology and it is located in the steel city of Rourkela odisha. It was established on 15 August, 1961 and it has been recognized as an institute of National Importance by the National Institute of Technology Act, 2007.

Its foundation stone was laid by the first Prime Minister of India Late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.

Eligibility Criteria to take Admission in Engineering at NIT:

• • Candidates need to appear for the JEE Mains entrance exam.
• • At National Institutes of Technology, Rourkela, admissions are done on the basis of entrance exam and merit list.
• • If a candidate clears an entrance exam then they have to appear for another admission process like counseling, group discussion followed by a personal interview.
• • To appear for JEE Mains entrance examination, candidates need to secure a minimum 75% in their higher secondary school from an authorized board.

Hostel and Mess Facility at NIT.

• National Institute of Technology, Rourkela provides fully furnished hostel facilities to its students.

• Hostel buildings are equipped with all the basic amenities like common room, an indoor room, a lounge and a dining hall with mess.

• National Institute of Technology , Rourkela offers seven hostels for boys and two hostels for girls and two hostels for married students.

• There is 24*7 security at the hostel premises.

• The food at the mess is of high quality, and prepared with hygien, with a different menu everyday.

● Ramps in all halls of residence

● Easy access toilets for boarders with disabilities.

● In some hostels few rooms are reserved for physically challenged hostellers . Their rooms are attached with a toilet and bathroom. These rooms are kept near the main entrance of the hall for easy access by the physically challenged hostellers.

● 24 x 7 support is being provided by the CRBs to the physically challenged hostellers. In certain cases room service is also available such as getting meals in time at their doorstep.

● Some cases family accommodation to the physically challenged hostellers are provided considering the type and percentage of disabilities with due approval of the Director.
