Recently National Test Agency (NTA) announces the result of NEET UG-2024 re-test,and while doing checking it was found that the total number of perfect scores has reduced from 67 to 61,which has resulted in more number of student scoring marks between the range of 670-710 which has increased the competition and race to get admission to the desired medical college.
Candidates were warned by the experts that NEET UG 2024 cut-off marks will be much higher in comparison to NEET-UG 2023 cut-off ,as a result many students are getting anxious, and due to increase in cut-off many candidates are thinking of repeating a year and many are considering private colleges for taking admission.
Counseling on Merit Based:
Secretary of National Medical Commission (NMC) Dr. B Sirinivas stated that counseling sessions are done through a standard software made by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) which helps in analyzing the data of top rankers, although if a student scores high scores then there are chances that student may get their desired college of their choice.
Dr. B Srinivas stated that there should be no comparison with previous year counseling results as the counseling procedure is completely automated and only depends on the NTA merit lists.
According to Parijat Mishra head counseling division of Allen Career Institute Kota ,Rajasthan , he stated that according to our analysis this year the NEET UG cut-off for MBBS courses will begin at 645 marks and counseling will be closed between 645 to 652 marks for general category students on all India counseling. There will be around 30,000 to 35,000 students to get seats in the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) counseling for MBBS courses , that’s what we are expecting this year. This year score range has increased by 40-50 marks and this is because this year it was the easiest question paper in last the 26 year . Difficulty level of the question paper is getting reduced slightly by NTA to reduce the stress and pressure from school students.
In the meantime , NMC is soon going to release a revised seat matrix for the NEET UG 2024 counseling. “Some states have increased seats by establishing new medical colleges or by adding new seats to the existing colleges. By doing this it can increase the total number of seats by 4,000 to 5,000 across the country which will add around 700 to 1000 more seats under the 15% of the All India Quota (AQI) required for MCC counseling. Aspirants who have a rank of around 50,000 might be able to be admitted into top private medical colleges such as Christian Medical College, Vellore, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, St John's Medical College, PSG Coimbatore and more. Students with 60,000 to 65,000 ranks can try their luck to get admission in the BDS, Nursing and other programmes at these campuses,” stated by Parijat Mishra.
Increase in Repeat Attempters :
According to Dr. B Sirinivas this year the cut off is bit high , therefore many aspirants will choose to write the exam again next year. There can be an increase in repeat attempts although it totally depends on the measures that the reform committee will suggest to NTA.
Dr Girish Tyagi, registrar, Delhi Medical Council (DMC), “There will be several students who will choose to reappear for the exam next year, as most students cannot afford to be admitted into a private college. Meanwhile, there are possibilities of diversion, as many students who appear for NEET might as well appear for JEE. Instead of picking Medicine as an option, they might opt for Engineering.”
